Binyag Mounted Anew

“THE REASON why we conducted the Binyag Arriba is because we want to orient the new students. The same with other schools, we conduct orientation programs. It is the same with the orientation done in other schools but we call it differently. Letran na Letran talaga siya,” said Erlinda Pontilar, head of the Guidance Office.

The two-day Binyag Arriba on May 30 to May 31 started with a Mass celebrated by Father Edwin A. Lao O.P., rector and president.

The new members of the Letran community were taught about Letran’s house rules, history, vision and mission, among others, on the first of the two-day orientation. Members of the Colegio’s administration and faculty were also introduced.

On the second day, students who belong to the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) were separated from the students of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and the College of Education and were sent to St. Thomas Hall and Mabini Hall, respectively. There, the heads of different departments discussed essential information about their respective offices. The traditional initiation rite, as was done during the Medieval ages, was held in the afternoon at the gymnasium. The event concluded with dance numbers from the Letran Cheering Squad, Street Beat, and Jazz Endanza.

“We are happy to note that I believe a hundred percent of those who have enrolled during that time participated. We had more than 400 participants. We actually met the target because we targeted only 400 participants,” said Pontilar.

The Guidance Office together with the faculty members of the collegiate level, the Student Council, the Letran Youth for Christ, and the Letran Peer Facilitators Association, or-ganized this year’s Binyag Arriba.
“Masaya siya. Hindi ko akalain na may mga ganito pa, Akala ko orientation lang tapos tapos na. Medyo matagal nga lang siya pero interesting naman,” one of the participants said.
