FIRST there was Spain, then came America, next came Japan and now the world?
We Filipinos have been traumatized by the fact that we have always been living under the guise of those who grab us by the throat. History can attest to it.
For years, we have tirelessly worked, exploited our own natural resources and exerted effort humanly possible all for the sake of another’s profit.
A future glimpse is not far away with the recent provisions of charter change.
One suggested amendment in the Charter is a provision that would “grant” foreign investors 100 percent ownership of land and would “open” Philippine mass media to them. This would give them the right to control every aspect of the business and be able to pull out should it not be successful.
We may not be alarmed upon the sight of such provision because our President “guarantees” an increase in foreign investors and eventually a rise in our economic stature.Yet with the said increase, there may never be enough Filipino investors who could stand up to them, and given the power to control 100 percent is practically having our countrymen do their bidding.
As a subsequent result, not only will our country be bombarded with immigrants left and right hoping for a piece of our pastures. What’s worse is that we will personally hand over the field, and graze it for them because we are paid to do it.
Let us face it, foreign investment will help us boost our economic status but let us not forget that this land is ours. Let us not be slaves to oppression once again.
